Greetings from MONTREAL! So great to be here – in the middle of a snow storm, but I am in Cafe Neve drinking coffee and eating chocolate cookies with the windows steamed and everyone emailing and francophoning. Lovely all! And they just played Iggy Pops “Passenger” which just is the best right now.
I am up here as I get to hang out and play music with good friend and saxophonist Damian Nisenson (and his incredible family), and play tomorrow Saturday April 13 with his band Nozen at the la casa del popolo in the Malasartes Festival. In other news:
Amy Denio and I mixed for days in Seattle last week, the 12 songs for the Tiptons Sax Quartet’s new CD “tiny lower case”. The music is exciting I can’t wait till the CD comes out – now just to find someone with printing press type so I can get a photo of the title , or this funny design concept in my head… Tina Tiptons just found a friend in Virginia with a basement full of type!
Zion80, led by Jon Madof, just did a 3 night run at the Stone and the band was rocking it hard each night. Personally I love the double baritone sound! Our CD comes out April 27 on Tzadik – get it get it!! Featuring Frank London, Jon Madof, Greg Wall, Yoshie Fruchter, Rich Stein, Brian Marsalla, Zach Mayer, Yuval Lion and
I am working on new tunes for JLE, and for string trio and saxophone for a house concert in Seattle in June, booking Slinshot songs East & West with Beth Fleenor and Sam Boshnack, and trying to set some summer dates (solo or collaborating) post Krakow Jewish music fest in early July. Next week I am excited to be working with experimental singer / songwriter -improviser Chris Cochrane, creating horn arrangements for a couple songs on his forthcoming CD. Ben Holmes on trumpet and Art Baron on trombone will be joining me in making a lush horn section in the studio.
Ok that ‘s all for now – time to go out in the snow! More soon – and Happy Spring!
