JLE @ BAM cafe May 20! Sound installations & Summer music!

Ciao ciao tutti!
The year seems to be flying by – mid May already?! Lots of good things have been happening this year so far and many more in the works! Here is a little update…
FRIDAY May 20TH , 9 PM –  1 SET
Jessica Lurie Ensemble at BAM cafe in Brooklyn NY FREE!
with Todd Sickafoose on bass, Brandon Seabrook-guitar, Mark Ferber -drums and Brian Marsalla – piano. I am really excited to be playing at the BAM cafe – what a beautiful space and with a beautiful band! We will be playing music from Shop of Wild Dreams and from my forthcoming CD Megaphone Heart. It is a free show so please come out and join us!

a NEW recording is in the works!… Due to come out in the Fall (October 2011) MEGAPHONE HEART is my latest studio adventure, produced by great bassist Todd Sickafoose. More singing, brand new original songs (half of the CD I am singing on), with the same great band as before ( I love having a band – booking agents anyone?) that features Todd on acoustic bass, Allison Miller on drums, Erik Deutsch on keyboard, and Brandon Seabrook on banjo and guitar, with special guest Marika Hughes on cello on several tracks.
SOUND INSTALLATION: RING YOUR BELL…This past week  I was lucky enough to be part of a great 4-day workshop hosted by CECArtslink in NYC, where we focused on public art (what is it , what does it mean, the where’s and how’s) led by Kendal Henry. How to go through the system or e a guerilla…. I’ll be putting up a little sound installation/interactive sound piece that if you are in lower Manhattan (near Wall Street) you can come and play and alter your sonic perception of the strange Wall street area (assuming no one steals it) and you can be part of the making new art! More info on Monday – come out at 5 pm to check it out! Pictures and documentation coming will be up on the site once i build it Sunday!
Saturday, JUNE 4 in Montepulicano, Italy … Celebrating the history of Il Grifo Magazine
a live music & live painting performance with Danijel Zezelj, with Marco Mollinelli on guitar/FX. Montepulciano is dear to my heart with so many great friends there! And we will be making new sights and sounds to celebrate Il Grifo, that published graphic artists such as Zezelj, Manara, Andrea Pazienza… Danijel, Marco and I recently did a big performance at the Gardner Museum in Boston “FRAMES” which we are planing to bring to new locations in the Fall and 2012.
THE GOLDEN RACKET by Jennifer Miller at La MAMA in June! Miller has done it again and has created a fine script indeed – I did music for this in April at Pratt with her theatre students – now it will be at La Mama, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance– BAAD, and the Coney Island Side Show in June, Kenny Wolleson and I providing the sounds. “La MaMa in association with Circus Amok presents a new comic play by Jennifer Miller, “The Golden Racket” Inspired by the mayhem of the 2009 New York State Senate the political flip-floppery of Hiram Monsertte and Pedro Espada, “The Golden Racket” follows the adventures of the women behind the men as they set out to enact a certain necessary revenge.  Double crossings, intrigue, high camp, and heartbreak come together in this tragic farce of power, greed, democracy, lust and…tennis? The Golden Racket” features a cast of downtown stage stars including Jennifer Miller, Becca Blackwell, Erin Markey, Jenny Romaine and Carlton Ward.” http://lamama.org/the-club/the-golden-racket/
